Urgh, the longest winter of all time, ever, is just about coming to an end. Lockdown is easing – not that I care for people getting all up in my grill again – shorts are being worn at work and the sun/grey ratio is beginning to favour the big round thing in the sky.
April’s hits are late, very late. I can only apologise as I’ve had somewhat of a crisis in my other life as a football fan as added to Arsenal being dogshit the bad men tried to obliterate the thing I love most in this world (family aside). And although the planned “Super League” has thankfully died a death I’m still coming to terms with the fact my relationship with football has been strained and whether or not I’ll ever feel the same way about it and my club again. The history, tradition, class has been sold out, the trust has gone.

We all know of The Cranberries, Limericks second best band. That’ll be becssue The Hitchers (#HitchersHits coming soon) sent me on an Irish spiral. I didn’t even realise that lead singer Dolores O’Riordan died the other year, not that it matters all that much I guess.

Scrolling Facebook a while back there was an advert for a gig in Oxford, Shonen Knife on their 40th anniversary tour. Any band celebrating 40 years together it’s safe to assume would be pushing 60s at the very least, yet the photo used was of the three Japanese ladies looking very good for anyone that age – it didn’t occur to me for one second that the photo might not be a current one. I have really stupid moments.

I’ve only scratched the surface and really need to go and have a proper dive but this is right up there with the Shins(y) type Garden State/Zach Braff era feel good indie-pop. Now, I was aware of TV On The Radio back in the day. They were the talk of the forums I’d frequent online, but I never gave them a listen. Recently I’ve been rewatching Entourage (which I never actually finished before going on a Taskmaster binge), anyway this was used in an Entourage episode.

Yeah, you guessed it. Spotify. It’s been a good month for new finds that way, that or I’m getting lazy. You know back in the day I might have gone to actual real life gigs and found a new band supporting someone, or gone shopping and Shazamed a song in H&M becssue I was a hip kid.
