#themaccabeeshits

Glastonbury 2025, big bag of shit ain’t it? Shite bands and awful production by the BBC – It’s a festival, turn up the crowd and showcase the atmosphere.

Anyway, of the few that I’d pay money to go watch The Maccabees would definitely be one of them. (They’re on Sunday night fyi)

I never really listened to them at the time, bar the odd couple of songs that appeared on The Inbetweeners or whatever. What really got me in to them was the Tailenders Podcast, back when cricket was my bag.

Hip kid once, don’t forget it.

August 2024

Think the last of these was June 2023, 14 months – what happened in that time? I truly couldn’t tell you, just a whole lot of life blurring into one and other. One thing that’s for certain at the minute though is “Work sucks (I know)” so decided to get the old band back together and throw a playlist together. Something to hyperfocus on as the kids would say these days.

You know, the usual format 10 songs that I’ve been digging recently and because I’m a nice guy I’m sharing them with you – so that you can have what I consider to be hits in your ears.

So sit back, plug in the earbuds, grab a sudoku and a cup of mellow birds and enjoy #leeshitsinyourears – August 2024

Special Edition – A Balmy Summers Eve Drive, Dream

I don’t usually waffle on with the Special Editions, they speak for themselves – but this one is highly personal for me. Literally my favourite thing in the entire world… after Arsenal, and pizza, and Pina Coladas … and Arrowwords. Ok, one of my favourite things is a summer evening drive (ideally to a beer garden) with the “windows down and the system up”, to quote the great Eminem.

#foofightershits

Foo Fighters – Dave Grohl, Tyler Hawkins for a time and that little guy that played in the Nirvana unplugged set and probably some others at different times – we all know them.

If I’m honest they’ve probably had half a dozen albums recently that I just haven’t bothered with at all. So they might have some hits that I’ve missed, though I doubt it.

Amazingly I did like a song off their newest album. It even made it on to the latest #leeshits for this month.

Saw them live “supporting” Oasis. They were much better.

#thesmithshits

When I grew up Green Day were “my band” and I’m quite happy with that. Though sometimes I do wish that I were 15 years older and it could have been The Smiths.

It’s also FA Cup final day today, and it’s a Manchester derby – and The Smiths are from Manchester, so sort of seems fitting. Obviously it’ll be one hell of an upset should United beat the monster that is City, but on the big stage there is always a chance of an upset (or at least a mass brawl and some spendings off)

It’s also made me realise that I’ve been missing a trick with limiting the #specialeditionshits to just genres of music and need to be doing locations too! Can already hear #canadashits being a smash!

#eltonjohnshits

I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I’m a Johnaholic. I’m not even gonna make out like I did any sort of extensive or fair research by actually listening to any of Elton’s work that I hadn’t already heard. (So if there is a mega hit I’ve missed then let me know!)

If I’m being honest – and intent on being controversial – for the most part it’s all a bit ‘dull’. But for sure there’s 10 hits of his out there, making him worthy of a spot on the coveted leeshitsinyourears.music.blog.

So be sure to revisit when you have yourself a need for an Elton John fox with only his absolute mega hits… And none of that boring shit you you feel like you have to listen to because he’s a legend in the world of music.

Meow.
