Yeah Yeah Yeahs, from New York. Sort of Arty Garage Indie/Rock. Rocked up solo to a gig of theirs, pretty much the first I’d braved on my own. Definitely worth it.

Dude York, from Seattle indie-rock kind of stuff. Definitely my favourite new(ish) band. The Shins, formed in Albuquerque based in Portland, indie-rock. Saw them live in Oxford at the Brookes University, not ashamed to say that it was probably before I fell in love and appreciated them properly.

French Films, indie-rock/new wave/surf-pop from Finland. Got to see them live at the last Great Escape festival we went to. Left the Girl early in the afternoon to get front row of about 50 people in some pubs back room.

Bloc Party, Londons own indie-rock/post-punk/jagged art-punk. Saw them in front of about 200 people before they released their first album, downstairs at the Zodiac (before the refurb when downstairs was the small venue for the cool kids) on the same night that The Killers *spit on floor* played upstairs in the main room.

The Wrens – The Meadowlands (2003)

The Wrens, from New Jersey, Alternative Indie-rock. Despite being together since 1989 they’ve only released 3 albums, this their last in 2003.

The Unicorns – Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone? (2003)

The Unicorns, of Montreal, Canada. Lo-fi indie-pop/rock. Their one and only album, released in 2003, before splitting up in 2004. Like the (UK) Office, its a masterpiece that won’t be ruined by overkill.
