It’s still 2021, it’s still lockdown, everything is still rubbish – weather has been alright last week, mind. Almost like you can feel summer is on its way and it is another month… So that means a new playlist.

It’s a few days late, but who said there are any fucking rules anyway?!

I live my life by a certain set of rules. #76 – No excuses, Play like a champ. For example. One that I’m thinking of adding to that list is that if you’re having a bad day, listen to ABBA on repeat. I am yet to see this fail. Aha!

Coming Of Age – Blondes

One of the gold songs from a playlist binge on Spotify. Blondes are a bunch of hip young kids, one of them bands that don’t bother with albums (why would you?) and just have a bunch of singles. There’s jangly guitars, drums and singing and stuff in this one.

Feels The Same – Bully

The debut album, Feels Like, from Bully was a thing of grunging beauty. I don’t know why, maybe there was other stuff going on at the time, but the follow up, Losing, only got a brief listen and didn’t grab me. Either way, the other day while hunting live Bully performances on YouTube I happened across one of this, the lead off track from that album and it was gooooood.

Around The World – Daft Punk

Daft Punk are dead, long live Daft Punk. Yeah it’s a shame – I have Homework on CD (one of the first albums I ever bought) still with the price tag on. I remember watching the video of this, the skeletons on the steps late night on MTV2, but let’s be honest nothing they ever did after was as good – couple of pop anthems aside.

Days – The Drums

I’m a hip kid, I know who The Drums are. I know that Surfing song, but if I’m honest that’s a far as my knowledge goes. The wife and I were watching a film a few weeks ago and this song came on and Hannah remarked “this is the sort of thing you listen to” and she was absolutely right. So a Google search later and now I’m The Drums biggest fan.

Give Me Novacaine/She’s A Rebel – Green Day

It’s an absolute crime that on Spotify the songs on American Idiot have been paired together. Because despite it being post-Nimrod Green Day there are some really good songs on that album. This one and Letterbomb especially, so it’s a travesty that to listen to them you have to put up with the dross beforehand. I’m thinking of starting one of them online petitions that if a certain number is reached then it has to be discussed in Parliament. Who’s with me?!

With all the attitude/tone of peak Avril Lavigne, this was a find on a Spotify binge 6 or so months back but keeps finding its way on to current playlists. A bit like Blondes I think she’s one of these hip kids that churn out the singles instead of crafting an album. I haven’t listened to them but from the titles they all seem overly sexualised, and who wants that in their ears?

Ibuprofen – Pabst

Can’t get enough of this, reminds me of a Supergrass/Wannadies crossover. It’s fast and loud and I like it a lot.

This reminds me a little of Surfer Blood, but probably better. I got stuck in my head one day and I fell in love. – there is also a studio performance of this song HERE that is all incredibly awkward and the eye contact from the drummer/singer is all kinds of unnerving… But I love it!
